The Danakil Depression seats at the triple junctions where 3 tectonic plates, the African, Arabian and Somali plates converge.
The landscape? Not from this planet…. Unreal… Amazing…. I don’t have the correct words to describe this landscape….
Just look at the photos/videos and make your own judgment…..
And yes, it is hell…. but what a memorable/fantastic trip…
You must join a tour, obviously, to go to Danakil Depression, and you can spend 1-2 or 3 nights there. Most of the people (like me) spend 2 nights. 3 days without a shower is enough….. All the travel agencies offer the same itinerary, so no surprise about that.

* Based on yearly temperature average, (35C / 95F) it is the warmest place in the world with a maximal temperature that can reach 48C / 118F (40C / 104F when I was there)
* One of the driest places in the world
* One of the most inhospitable places in the world
* Has one of the worlds six permanent active lava lakes
* Has toxic gases, such as chlorine, and Sulphur vapor
* The roads are most of the time gravel/sand with a lot of potholes, so be ready for a bumpy ride…
I told you: it is HELL!!!!

Erta Ale is a continuous active basaltic shield volcano in the Afar region. The volcano is at an elevation of 613m.
Walking on an active volcano crater full of warm lava…..
Sleep on a mattress under the stars on the rim of the volcano….
You are at the gate of Hell!! how cool is that!!!
I was hoping to see red boilling lava…. but not, only solid lava…
Dallor is a unique terrestrial hydrothermal system around a cinder volcano. The unearthly colors and mineral patterns, with the very acid fluids discharge from the hydrothermal springs make it so beautiful.
As the locals say, when you are at the Dallor, you are on another planet!
So so beautiful, much more beautiful than Yellowstone Park in USA

Unfortunately, we can walk anywhere we want, so we damage those magnificent “crystals”
Driving through the Danakil Depression
The different landscapes we drove through were amazing!!
From the car convoy I was, unfortunately, I was in the wrong car……
3 flat tires in 3 days…..
Got stuck in the sand….
A/C did not work well, so it was very hot in the car
The roads are very bad, so it is very bumpy
In summary, it was hell!!
